Kazakh deputy PM to survey scene of ArcelorMittal Temirtau accident

KARAGANDA. June 27. KAZINFORM A large-scale accident occurred at the metallurgical plant JSC "ArcelorMittal Temirtau" in Temirtau, Karaganda. No casualtities were reported, according to the press service of the Prime Minister.

A breakage of a reinforced concrete chimney on coke and by-product processing HU-1 took place at 16.15 p.m. local time at JSC "ArcelorMittal Temirtau".

The pipe is designed to remove the products of combustion from the heating walls of coke oven battery, shattered by three-quarters. The outer diameter of the pipe is 11 meters, height - 90 meters," the statement reads.

The collapse damaged pipeline of the direct coke oven gas with a diameter of 2000 mm.

"On behalf of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Industry and New Technologies Asset Issekeshev has departed to the place of the emergency to hold a staff meeting," the statement says.

According to the company, a special commission was formed to investigate the causes of the incident. "The causes of the accident are established. The plan of liquidation of the accident is designed," the deputy executive director for the repair of JSC "ArcelorMittal Temirtau" Vadim Basin informed.

JSC "ArcelorMittal Temirtau" produces and sells longitudinal welded tubes and pipes for the mechanical industry, and water and gas distribution applications primarily in Kazakhstan. It also exports its pipes and tubes to the member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The company was formerly known as "Mittal Steel Temirtau" JSC and changed its name to JSC "ArcelorMittal Temirtau" in September 2007. The company was founded in 1960 and is based in Temirtau, Kazakhstan. JSC "ArcelorMittal Temirtau" operates as a subsidiary of Arcelor Mittal.
