Kazakh film about Semipalatinsk nuclear test site victims premiered in Busan
World premiere of the film Aikai (Scream) about the victims of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site took place during the 28th Busan International Film Festival in South Korea, Kazinform learned from 24.kz.
The film was screened within A Window on Asian Cinema section, which features the continent’s best 30 films, with Aikai being the only work from the Central Asian region.
Those starring in the film are non-professional actors.
Directed by Kenzhebek Shaikakov, director and screenwriter from Aktobe, the film unveils a tragic part of Kazakhstan’s history, featuring the life of ordinary people in rural settlements who had to face the consequences of nuclear tests carried out in Semipalatinsk polygon.
The film will be screened in Busan for three days.
