Kazakh FM meets with participants of talks on Iran's nuclear program

ASTANA. February 25. KAZINFORM Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Yerlan Idrissov has held a number of bilateral meetings with the heads of foreign delegations in Almaty today prior to the next round of talks on Iran's nuclear program.

At the meeting with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman the sides discussed political and commercial and economic relations between Kazakhstan and the U.S. as well as the problems of global and regional security.

The state and prospective areas for bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and Iran, interaction within international organizations and current situation in Central Asia were the main topics touched upon during the meeting with Saeed Jalili, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council. The sides once again reiterated their mutual interest in preserving the dynamics of bilateral contacts.

Later Mr. Idrissov met with Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov. Having stressed the constructive interaction between the foreign ministries of Kazakhstan and Russia, the sides debated key issues of bilateral cooperation and joint efforts within the framework of international organizations. During the meeting, they also reaffirmed their commitment to the development of integration processes and mutual intention to ensure security in the region and prevent emerging threats.

Mr. Idrissov also had a meeting with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton within which they reviewed key areas of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EU and the upcoming visit of President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso to Kazakhstan.

The heads of the foreign delegations thanked Kazakhstan for providing a platform for the talks on Iran's nuclear program.
