Kazakh footballers cheered by fans in Astana after bitter loss to Slovenia in Euro 2024 qualifiers
Kazakhstan’s national football team were warmly greeted by their families and fans at the Astana international airport after their 2-1 loss to Slovenia in Ljubljana as part of Euro 2024 qualifiers, Kazinform News Agency cites the press service of the Kazakh Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
Welcoming footballers, Kazakh Minister of Tourism and Sports Yermek Marzhikpayev praised them for giving all Kazakhstanis positive emotions, even to those who don’t consider themselves football fans. In his words, the entire country stayed wide awake to cheer on the team during the match in the Slovenian capital.
“Thousands of Kazakhstani kids look up to members of the Kazakh national football squad,” said Minister Marzhikpayev, adding words of gratitude to Kazakhstani footballers.
The footballers and their head coach Magomed Adiyev, for their part, expressed gratitude for all the support they got during the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Although Kazakhstan failed to secure qualification for the Euro 2024 finals in Germany, it still can earn their place through March’s playoffs in the Nations League against Greece.
