Kazakh Foreign Minister paid working visit to Washington

ASTANA. May 5. KAZINFORM Kazakh Foreign Minister Marat Tazhin held negotiations with the U.S National Security Advisor General James Jones and USA Energy Minister Steven Chu Monday during his working visit to Washington, Kazinform refers to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.

Marat Tazhin and General James Jones discussed the issues of strengthening the nuclear non-proliferation regime, provision of security and stability in Central Asia, development of strategic cooperation between Kazakhstan and the USA . J.Jones stressed comprehension by the USA Administration of the strategic role of Kazakhstan in Central Asia. He emphasized the contribution of Kazakhstan to the efforts of the world community on settlement of the situation in Afghanistan and Iraq and expressed gratitude for provision of the air space for flights of the coalition aircrafts to Afghanistan. The sides shared opinion on the initiative of N.Nazarbayev on placement of the nuclear fuel bank on the territory of the country. J.Jones said that the realization of the initiative will have positive effects for the world community. Issues of provision of the global energy security, strengthening of the nuclear nonproliferation regime, prospects for cooperation in the field of renewable energy sources and others were discussed at the meeting with USA Energy Minister Steven Chu. The Kazakh Diplomat complimented the role of the USA oil companies that invested over USD 11 bln to the development of statehood and the growth of national economy. The Kazakh Minister proposed to establish an intergovernmental commission on energy partnership. The same evening Minister M.Tazhin made a report on the topic ?Priorities of Kazakhstan?s Foreign Policy? in the USA Council on foreign relations.
