Kazakh Health Ministry to purchase additional 1mln measles vaccine doses

 The Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan is set to purchase an additional one million doses of measles vaccines at the expense of the funds from the government reserve. 500 thousand more doses are expected to arrive in the second decade of November, Zaure Akhmetova, deputy chairwoman of the Committee of sanitary and epidemiological control, said at a briefing, Kazinform Agency correspondent reports. 

There were around 370 thousand measles doses left by late October despite that 1.5 million people need additional immunization. They include kids aged from six months – 353.7 thousand, two to four-year-old kids – 944 thousand. 65.3 thousand adults and 136.8 thousand health workers are also eligible for vaccination, said Akhmetova.

According to her, an additional one million doses of measles vaccines at the expense of the funds from the government reserve is to be purchased. 500 thousand more doses are expected to arrive in the second decade of November.

As of today, over 14 thousand children from six to 11 months have been vaccinated, she added.
