Kazakh, Jordan Senate Speakers met in Astana

ASTANA. October 21. KAZINFORM Chairman of the Senate of the Kazakh Parliament Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev met with Taher Al-Masri, Speaker of the Senate of the Jordanian Parliament who had arrived in Kazakhstan with an official visit.

Having noted dynamic development of the Kazakh-Jordanian cooperation, K. Tokayev highlighted importance of establishment of inter-parliamentary interaction.

"Kazakhstan considers Jordan as one of its important partners in the Middle East", the Kazakh Speaker said.

K. Tokayev told about the activity of the Kazakhstan Parliament, the role and importance of the Senate in the system of state institutions and informed his Jordanian counterpart of the country's international initiatives - convocation of the Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions and the chairmanship in the OSCE. The Speaker also told about the course of preparation for the OSCE Summit in Astana scheduled for December 1-2, 2010. Next year Kazakhstan will chair the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC).

"It is great honor for us to preside in the OIC", K. Tokayev said and expressed hope for Jordanian support of the Kazakh initiatives at this post.

The Kazakh Speaker invited Mr. Taher Al-Masri to take part in the IV Congress of the Spiritual Leaders in 2012.

In the course of the meeting the parties expressed interest in further development of the dialogue between East and West and in promotion of the ideas of civilized and enlightened Islam.

Taher Al-Masri highly appreciated the level of bilateral relations between Jordan and Kazakhstan and spoke for improvement of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

"Both countries' parliaments are democratic institutes which provides good opportunities to develop relations on official level as well as between our peoples", the high guest said.

The Jordan Senate Speaker invited K. Tokayev to visit his country.
