Kazakh junior chess players secure 3 silver, 1 bronze medals at FIDE World Youth Chess Championships 2024

Kazakh junior chess players won three silver and one bronze medals at the FIDE World Youth Chess Championships 2024 held in Florianópolis, Brazil, from October 29 to November 9, Kazinform News Agency learned from the press service of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation.

Silver medals were secured by International Master (IM) Edgar Mamedov in U14 category, IM Aldiyar Ansat in  U18, and by WIM Amina Kairbekova in girls’ U18.

Bronze medal was claimed by IM Sauat Nurgaliyev in U14 category.

The championships brought together over 500 young chess players from 63 countries, including one grandmaster (GM), one woman grandmaster (WGM), 22 international masters (IM) and four women international masters (WIM).

Kazakhstan was represented by 20 chess players led by chief coach, GM Anton Filippov.

Daniyal Sapenov, who competed in  U16 category lost to German player Bennet Hagner in the tournament's decisive round, and Zarina Nurgaliyeva lost to Afruza Shamdanova from Uzbekistan in the last round in girls’ U16 category.
