Kazakh language climbed up to 25th place in Wikipedia rating

ASTANA. December 19. KAZINFORM The Kazakh language climbed up from the 127th  to 25th  place in the Wikipedia rating of languages, the number of monthly views of pages of the Kazakh online encyclopedia reached 8 million. The number of articles increased 20 times exceeding 200 thousand publications, the Central Communications Service reported.

According to the Service, the number of active users participating in publishing and editing of articles is about 230 people. The number of users of the online encyclopedia has also essentially increased. "Kazaksha Wikipedia" reached the record number of views of pages of 10 million in September this year.

The editorial office of the national encyclopedia "Kazakhstan" made a great contribution in development of the Kazakh Wikipedia. The office prepared 50 thousand articles for publishing in the global electronic library. Students of the leading universities of the country made a contribution as well, Kazakh PM's website reported.

Presently, a competition among the most active participants of the project continues. Author of 100 articles can win laptops and authors of the best articles selected by open voting will receive mobile phones from the sponsors of the project.

As earlier reported, "Kazaksha Wikipedia" project is implemented under the auspices of Head of the President's Administration of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov. The project was launched in June 2011.

The main purpose of the project is to develop the Kazakh version of the global encyclopedia Wikipedia.
