Kazakh national company increases uranium production in third quarter

ASTANA. October 31. KAZINFORM The Kazakh Kazatomprom national atomic company increased its extraction of uranium in the third quarter of 2013, the company said on Monday.

'Kazatomprom extracted 3,207 tons of uranium including shares in subsidiaries and affiliates for the third quarter of 2013', the statement said. "This is five per cent more than in the same period of 2012. The uranium production volume amounted to 5762 tons in Kazakhstan, or by six per cent in the same period of 2012'.

According to the report, the Mangistau Atomic Energy Complex -Kazatomprom generated 1.062 billion kilowatt / hours of electricity and 555,200 Gcal of heat energy for consumers of the Aktau and Mangistau region for the third quarter of 2013. These figures correspond to the company's production plans.

Kazatomprom Company is Kazakhstan's national operator on the export of uranium and its compounds, rare metals, nuclear fuel for power plants, special equipment, dual-use technology and materials.

The basic direction of the company's activity includes geological exploration, uranium production and manufacture of nuclear fuel cycle products and producing construction materials, Kazinform refers to trend.az.

Also included are energy, science, social security and personnel training. Kazatomprom is an active participant of the Programme for Development of Renewable Energy in Kazakhstan.

At present, over 25,000 people work at the company which is among the world's leading uranium producers.
