Kazakh ?Nevada-Semipalatinsk? anti ? nuclear movement marks 20th anniversary
ALMATY. February 27. KAZINFORM /Yelena Ilyinskaya/ Tomorrow will be the 20th anniversary of the International Antinuclear Movement ?Nevada-Semipalatinsk?. Its role in the establishment and development of the civil society in Kazakhstan is significant, Kazinform correspondent reports.
Having refused from nuclear weapons Kazakhstan proved that the weapons of mass destruction is alien to the very human nature. The movement is one of the most authoritative and effective among other peacemaking movements; its deserts are recognized by the world community. According to the decision of the UNESCO the movement was included into the ?Memory of the World ?for the services to the mankind.
Along with its international activity the movement focused its efforts on the implementation of ?Rebirth of Earth and Man? program, organization of scientific research aimed at the rehabilitation of the territories affected by atomic contamination. At present Nevada-Semipalatinsk Movement supports the initiatives of American President Barack Obama on restriction of nuclear arsenal and non - proliferation of nuclear weapons. 20 years experience of the peacemaking activity let consider the upcoming agreements as the first important step towards the complete nuclear disarmament.
All these initiatives including the number of others will be outlined at the International Conference ?The XXI century and the Global Antinuclear Movement? devoted to the 20th anniversary of the International Antinuclear Movement ?Nevada-Semipalatinsk? on May, 2009 in Almaty.
