Kazakh parliament keen on developing coop with Cyprus – Senate speaker

Kazakh Senate Chairman Maulen Ashimbayev held a meeting with foreign minister of Cyprus Constantinos Kombos, discussing further strengthening of cooperation and expanding partnership between the two countries, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Ashimbayev extended his congratulations to Kombos on the National Day of Cyprus and noted the country’s positive development. He pointed out that over the past years, Kazakhstan and Cyprus have established a solid foundation for cooperation based on mutual respect and trust. Special attention was attached to the importance of stepping up interparliamentary relations between the countries in the future.

The trust-based dialogue at the high-level contributed to the strengthening of our ties in all directions. We welcome the decision to open an embassy of Cyprus in Astana. We believe that this step will herald a new stage of our relations, strengthening bilateral ties. The Kazakh parliament is also interested in developing interparliamentary cooperation with the country. Both chambers of our parliament have groups of friendship with the Cyprus legislature, the potential of which needs to be used in tandem, said Ashimbayev.

The Kazakh Senate speaker drew the attention of his interlocutor to the outcomes of the large-scale political and social and economic modernization the country carries out at the initiative of President Tokayev. In particular, Constantinos Kombos was informed about the measures aimed at transition to a new economic model.

The Cyprus foreign minister expressed interest in further enhancement of cooperation, including parliamentary exchange. The issues of developing of trade, economic, investment and cultural ties were also discussed.
