Kazakh PM chairs 1st meeting of Commission for return of illegally acquired assets

 Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov chaired the first meeting of the Government on the return of illegally acquired assets, Kazinform Agency cites the primeminister.kz.

The Commission on the return of illegally acquired assets was established at the instruction of the Head of State and pursuant to the law on the return of illegally acquired assets to the state.

The Commission is comprised of members of the Government, heads of law-enforcement agencies, deputies of the Kazakh Parliament and public figures.

The Commission is tasked to elaborate and develop ways and mechanisms to ensure the return of illegally acquired assets from abroad back to Kazakhstan. All decisions of the Commission will be made jointly, transparently and impartially taking into account social, economic and political interests of the state.

The Committee for the return of illegally acquired assets under the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan will serve as a working body of the Commission.

At the meeting, members of the Commission were briefed on the preparations for voluntary or forced return of the assets to the state within the framework of the procedures prescribed by the law.

The proposals on voluntary return of the assets by individuals who are ready to cooperate with the Committee will be put forward for consideration of the Commission in the nearest future. The proposals on the forced return of the assets will be submitted as well.

Prime Minister Smailov urged the Commission to work promptly and without bureaucratic bottlenecks.
