Kazakh PM Smailov visits automobile plant set to produce 70 thou vehicles a year in Kostanay rgn

 While in Kostanay region on a working trip, Kazakh Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov visited a number of production facilities of machine-building industry, Kazinform News Agency cites the press service of the Kazah government. 

The Kazakh government head got familiarized with the construction of an automobile plant set to produce up to 70 thousand vehicles a year.

The plant’s director-general Kim Dee Kay pointed out that 1.5 thousand new jobs are to be created CKD production of Sorento, Sportage and Cerato cars is set to be established at the plant at the initial stage. The plant is to commissioned by 2025.

During the visit, Smailov noted that the government pays great attention to diversification of the economy and deepening localization in the manufacturing industry.

We welcome our Korean partners and realization of such a large investment project in Kazakhstan. As I know, this is the only plant of its kind in the Eurasian continent. There is the same plant only in the USA. This is a very important project for our country, taking into account its capacity, said the Kazakh Prime minister.

Last year, the country produced 148 thousand vehicles, 30% more than a year before.

The Kazakh Prime minister also added that the Kia plant is to manufacture around 50 thousand cars using the small node assembly method.

Smailov also got familiarized with the plans to manufacture Chevrolet Onix cars at the Allur plant afterwards. According to the plant’s chairman Andrey Lavrentyev, the plant is to target the domestic market and to produce vehicles at affordable prices. With production of 30 thousand vehicles per year, the plant is to create over 400 new jobs.

The Kazakh government head noted that as of now, the manufacturing industry has caught up with the mining industry.

During the visit to the region, the Kazakh Prime minister also inspected the localization center AgromashHolding KZ, manufacturing one thousand combines, three thousand tractors, and around 300 seeders and 200 picking platforms per year. Last year, Kazakhstani farmers received over 1,200 tractors and combines.

Last year, 6.4 thousand grain harvesters and tractors were manufactured, a 20% higher than in 2022.
