Kazakh President calls on OSCE states to support initiative for adoption of nuclear free world declaration

ASTANA. December 1. KAZINFORM /Maria Peshkova/ At todays' OSCE Summit in Astana Kazakh President called on for our partners in the OSCE space to support Kazakhstan's initiative for the adoption of a universal declaration on the nuclear free world.

"Closure of the Semipalatinsk test site and the renouncement of nuclear weapons were our initial contribution to the common European process.", he noted.

"A defining feature of the summit is the fact that the Summit is taking place at the heart of Eurasia, a thousand kilometers from the geographical boundaries of Europe. In our view this reflects the changed paradigm of the European security. At the beginning of the 21st century the sources of the hazardous threats for the stability of the European continent has tended to emanate from outside its territory. In Afghanistan 43 OSCE participating states are present, we are in favor of the comprehensive strategy for conflict resolution in Afghanistan and for the restoration of the country's economy and peace. But we, alongside the leadership of the Russian Federation, the US and other partners have made use of the OSCE to prevent escalation of conflict and promote stabilization in the country", the President of Kazakhstan emphasized.
