Kazakh President highlights Kostanay region’s role in food security

At the forum of Interregional Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia, Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev described Kostanay region as a breadbasket region highlighting its role in ensuring food security, Kazinform News Agency reports.

The President said Kostanay region heavily contributes to the country’s food security thanks also to the cultivation campaign which started 70 years ago. Last year the sales between the two nations reached 3.6 billion US dollars. The Head of State said the countries have great opportunities to expand trade and mutually beneficial cooperation in the sphere of the agro-industrial complex.

As stated there, Kazakhstan and Russia rank among the largest farm producers as well as among the world’s top 10 grain exporters. Kazakhstan and Russia account for almost 10% of cropland and 9% of pastures and grassland of the world.
