Kazakh President surveys water supply facilities construction progress in Almaty

The Head of State surveyed the progress of construction of two safe drinking water reservoirs Balkhash and a pump station, Kazinform News Agency learnt from the Akorda press service.

Kamenskoye plato, Kolsay, Yubileinyi and Muztau districts will be provided with drinking water.

The city authorities reported on the current state and plans for the development of Almaty water supply networks.

In 2023 the akimat built 117 km and updated 46 km of water supply system which let 99.3% of Almaty population get access to centralized water supply. 2024 will see the construction of 142 km and the modernization of 48 km of water supply networks to provide 99.6% of the population with a centralized water supply and reduce the depreciation of networks to 53.8%.

Construction of the Kargaly water supply intake will be completed this year to provide 50,000 of Nauryzbai district with water. Construction of the Aksai water supply intake will conclude next year to solve water shortage problems in Nauryzbai, and Karasai districts with populations of 100,000 and 15,000 respectively.

The Head of State said Kazakhstan is a country with water scarcity. We need a nationwide drinking water program. We should use water efficient processes and instill a culture of being careful with water consumption.
