Kazakh President thanks health workers for their contribution to global COVID response

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the plenary session of the international conference to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Alma-Ata and the 5th anniversary of Astana declarations on primary health care, Kazinform Agency learnt from the Akorda press service.

Addressing those present the Head of State highlighted the significance of Alma-Ata and Astana declarations in improving the international healthcare and primary health care system.

The Head of State said the Alma-Ata Declaration was signed 45 years ago and laid the foundation for a socially fair model of primary health care. This declaration became the great charter of world healthcare and inspired many countries to adopt measures for improving people’s health, recognizing it as a fundamental human right. The Alma-Ata Declaration helped significantly reduce maternal and infant mortality rates and increase expected lifespan in many countries.

The Head of State stressed the primary health care system plays a crucial role in detecting early epidemic symptoms and responding to unforeseen challenges. The President said the primary healthcare facilities demonstrated stability and ability to rapid adaption. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed gratitude to all health workers for their contribution to the global COVID-19 response.
