Kazakh President Tokayev greets German Chancellor Olaf Scholz

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev greeted Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz at the presidential palace Akorda, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was officially welcomed to Akorda by a guard of honour, with the presidential orchestra performing the national anthems of Kazakhstan and Germany.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Olaf Scholz walked down the carpet to the national flag of the Republic of Kazakhstan, after which they started a private meeting.

Earlier it was reported that Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov welcomed Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz, who had arrived in Kazakhstan upon the Kazakh President’s invitation, at the airport in Astana.

It is expected that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is to take part in the second Summit “Central Asia + Germany,” set to discuss strategic cooperation and partnership in a wide range of areas, including trade and economic interaction and realization of joint investment projects.

Germany is among key trade and investment partners of Kazakhstan, as the mutual trade between the countries grew 13% and stood at 2.3 billion US dollars in seven months of this year compared to the same period of last year. Following 2023, the amount of direct investments from Germany to Kazakhstan was up 64% to 770 million US dollars, with the bulk of the investments went to the development of the non-primary sector of the economy.

It was previously reported that Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz was to make an official visit to Kazakhstan on September 16-17 upon the invitation of Kazakh leader Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
