ASTANA. January 7. KAZINFORM /Damir Baimanov/ Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev visited Holy Dormition Cathedral in Astana and congratulated Orthodox Christians of Kazakhstan on Christmas.

'Islam and Orthodoxy are the two main religious confessions in Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan is committed to the policy that respects religious beliefs of all believers and creates conditions of mutual understanding, tolerance, friendship and peace. Tolerance and harmony of our multiethnic country are based on it. Thanks to stability Kazakhstan is making headway and life of our people is improving', N. Nazarbayev noted in his speech.

The President reminded that Christmas and Kurban-Ait are days-off. 'I know that this day hearts of believers are united by feeling of love, benevolence, love to each other, love to the country. Kazakhstan is respected for it in the world, we are an example of tolerance and mutual understanding of all religions and nationalities', the President emphasized.

'We have to preserve these values for future generations', the President said.

'I congratulate you on this wonderful Christmas holiday and wish peace, wellbeing, love, good and happiness to everyone and every family', N. Nazarbayev added.

Besides, the Head of State presented a minibus to the servants of the Cathedral.
