Kazakh, Russian FMs discuss Caspian Sea's legal status

MOSCOW. November 17. KAZINFORM /Narymbek Ismagulov/ The issues of regulation of the legal status of the Caspian Sea have been discussed at the meeting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted at the press conference.

"We discussed the issues of the legal regulation of the Caspian Sea's status in detail. The difficulties maintain, but there is a certain progress within the framework of five-sided negotiations on the Caspian Sea", he noted.

"The Russian and Kazakh positions on many aspects of the legal Caspian status are close or coincide, and we agreed on consultations continuation on this topic in the course of the upcoming negotiating rounds", S.Lavrov resumed.

As Kazakh Secretary of State-Minister of Foreign Affairs Kanat Saudabayev added, Kazakhstan and Russia have always been locomotives on solution if this difficult problem. "Our countries have always demonstrated understanding, willingness to compromise, readiness to take into account interests of each other. Because of it we agreed positions of our bilateral issues", the Kazakh Foreign Minister emphasized.

K.Saudabayev added that the future meeting of the heads of Caspian states can become the next step to final solution of the Caspian issue. "We are united in the fact that the Caspian Sea must be a sea of friendship and mutual interests", he resumed.
