Kazakh-Russian Joint Demarcation Commission holds 143rd meeting in Almaty

From October 28 to November 1, the city of Almaty hosted the 143rd meeting of the Kazakh-Russian Joint Demarcation Commission, Kazinform News Agency learned from the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.

The sides discussed a package of issues related to designation of the state border lines on its various sections, confirmed the relevant draft final documents on the demarcation as well as draft schedule of the work of the Kazakh-Russian Joint Demarcation Commission for year 2025.

The next sitting of the commission is slated for December 2024 in the territory of the Russian Federation.

In October 2022, ex-Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tleuberdi said it will take about 2-3 years to fully complete the demarcation of the Kazakh-Russian border.

«Kazakhstan and Russia share more than 7,500 kilometers of border, 70% of which have already been demarcated. The remaining 30% runs through the mountainous areas. It will take about 2-3 years to fully complete the demarcation of the Kazakh-Russian border. Of course, both sides have already completed the process of identification of boundaries. The only thing we need is to demarcate the borders,» Mukhtar Tleuberdi said on the sidelines of the Senate’s session.
