Kazakh Senate ratified UNESCO Convention for Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage
ASTANA. December 1. KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ At today's plenary session the Kazakh Senate adopted the law "On ratification of the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage".
Representing the bill, the Kazakh Culture Minister noted the UNESCO adopted the Convention on October 17, 2003 in Paris.
The Convention is purposed to safeguard the intangible cultural heritage; to ensure respect for the intangible cultural heritage of the communities, groups and individuals concerned; to raise awareness at the local, national and international levels of the importance of the intangible cultural heritage, and of ensuring mutual appreciation thereof; to provide for international cooperation and assistance.
139 countries have already joined the Convention.
