Kazakh Senate Speaker Ashimbayev addresses Int’l Conference in Bishkek
Chairman of the Senate of Parliament of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev took part in the international conference dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazinform Agency correspondent reports.
Addressing the event with a congratulatory speech, Ashimbayev said that the date symbolizes the commitment of the Kyrgyz people to the traditions of parliamentarism based on the ancient qurultay and people’s meeting institutions.
The establishment of the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz SSR, which contributed greatly to the post-war recovery of the country, its industrialization, preservation and development of national culture of the Kyrgyz people, was the milestone in the development of parliamentarism in Kyrgyzstan. Prominent writer Chingiz Aitmatov also made his contribution to the strengthening of parliamentarism traditions in Kyrgyzstan.
The parliamentarism institution in Kyrgyzstan underwent the key stages of its establishment. In modern conditions, the great role in the country’s development is placed on the Supreme Council, which is rightfully the national platform for discussing the key issues of the country’s development and taking key solutions. I’m certain that parliamentarism in Kyrgyzstan will further develop actively and contribute to the sustainable development of the country, said Ashimbayev.
The Kazakh Senate Speaker stressed that the parliamentarism institution has been established in the CIS countries, with the countries having a difficult path to build a balanced political system, finding their own development models. According to him, today this institution meets the interests of the countries and societies of the Commonwealth, with the parliaments constantly developing and improving their activity as time demands.
The work of our parliaments aims at strengthening of relations and increasing the wellbeing of our peoples. The legislative bodies also contribute greatly to the cooperation between our countries in trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian, security, environmental and other spheres. It is important to actively develop interparliamentary interaction and dialogue, said Ashimbayev.
Attending the conference were the heads of delegations from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.
Notably, the Kyrgyz capital plays host to the autumn session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, within which a meeting of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the 56th plenary session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, as well as a meeting of the CIS Youth Interparliamentary Assembly on November 16-17. In addition, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly’s standing committees on political issues and international cooperation, social policy and human rights carry out their work. The Kyrgyz-Kazakh youth forum is also set to take place.
