Kazakh Senate Speaker held bilateral meetings in Doha, Qatar

ASTANA. December 12. KAZINFORM Kazakh Senate Chairman- head of the Secretariat of the Congress of leaders of world and traditional religions Kairat Mami, who arrived in Doha (The State of Qatar) for participation in the Alliance of Civilizations Forum, has held a number of bilateral meetings; the Chamber's press service reports.

At a meeting with Jorge Sampaio, Former President of the Portuguese Republic, United Nations Secretary-General's High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations, there were discussed the issues on further development of cooperation with Kazakhstan and the Alliance of Civilizations.

K.Mami emphasized that our country is ready to contribute in strengthening a dialog between civilizations.

As the Speaker told, Kazakhstan successfully implements programs on achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. K.Mami invited J.Sampaio to take part in the IV Congress of spiritual leaders in Astana in May, 2012.

J.Sampaio highly appraised Kazakhstan's efforts on promotion of interethnic and interfaith dialog. According to him, Kazakhstan's successful experience in this sphere should be studied and discussed. He proposed to hold a regional Alliance of Civilizations in Astana.

Senate Speaker K.Mami and Prince Hassan bin Talal of Jordan discussed the issues of further development of bilateral Kazakh-Jordanian relations. "Kazakhstan pays great significance to development of cooperation with Jordan," K.Mami said.

On behalf of President N.Nazarbayev the Senate Chairman invited Prince Hassan bin Talal of Jordan to attend the Congress of world and traditional religions in Astana in May, 2012.

The Jordanian Prince conveyed greetings and the best wishes to President Nursultan Nazarbayev from King Abdullah. The Prince highly appraised Kazakhstan's measures on promotion of the global intercultural and interfaith dialog.

Senate Speaker K.Mami met with Secretary General of OIC Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu. The sides discussed the issues of further promotion of cooperation within the OIC.

At a meeting with Rabbi Arthur Schneier, President, Appeal of Conscience Foundation, member of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations High-Level Group, there was held an exchange of opinions on a wide range of issues.
