Kazakh State Counselor Karin addresses 42nd session of UNESCO General Conference
State Counselor, Chairman of the National Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan for UNESCO and ISESCO Yerlan Karin addressed the general political debates of the 42nd session of the UNESCO general conference held in Paris, Kazinform Agency cites Akorda.
In his speech, Yerlan Karin emphasized that Kazakhstan attaches great importance to the development of comprehensive cooperation with UNESCO.
According to the State Counselor, this cooperation contributes to the successful implementation of political, economic, social and humanitarian reforms in Kazakhstan. A number of current initiatives were presented to the attention of the delegates, voiced in the speech of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the second meeting of the National Qurultay in the city of Turkestan and in his address to the people of Kazakhstan on September 1, 2023.
The goal of the reforms carried out in the country is to form a new quality of the nation through the development of education, science and culture, said Karin.
The State Counselor noted the importance of UNESCO’s systemic support for the implementation in Kazakhstan of specific projects in the field of protection of cultural and natural heritage, development of education, exact and human sciences, communications and the media.
Speaking from the rostrum of the Organization, whose mission is to promote peace, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue, Yerlan Karin recalled the statement of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the UN General Assembly that all holy books, including the Koran, deserve legal protection from vandalism .
He expressed thanks to the member States of the Organization for their support of the recent inclusion of the territories of the Altyn-Emel National Park and the Barsakelmes Nature Reserve onto the World Heritage List as part of the transnational site “Turan Temperate Deserts”.
In terms of studying serious climate changes, the initiative of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to hold a Regional Climate Summit in Kazakhstan under the auspices of the UN in 2026 was emphasized.
At the end of his speech, Karin emphasized Kazakhstan’s readiness to develop and strengthen further mutually beneficial cooperation with UNESCO.
