Kazakh State Counselor Karin meets with UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay
On the sidelines of the 42nd session of the UNESCO conference, a meeting was held between State Counselor of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Karin and UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay, Kazinform News Agency cites the Akorda press service.
During the meeting, Karin noted that the official visit of the UNESCO Director General to Kazakhstan this June and the meeting with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev gave new impetus to the development of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation.
According to him, Kazakhstan is committed to expanding interaction with the Organization, for instance, in the field of protection of cultural and natural heritage. In the context of global climate change, research conducted on a regular basis by the Central Asian Regional Glaciological Center in Almaty under the auspices of UNESCO is of great importance.
The State Counselor thanked the UNESCO Director General for the decision to upgrade the status of the Organization’s Cluster Office in Almaty to a Multisectoral Regional Office (Bureau).
In turn, Audrey Azoulay recalled with great warmth her June visit to Kazakhstan and highly appreciated the systemic reforms being carried out in the country under the leadership of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, including in terms of promoting education, science and culture.
