Kazakh Statistics Agency announced final results of census 2009

ANA. November 12. KAZINFORM /Murat Zhakeyev/ The Kazakh Statistics Agency summed up the results of the National Census-2009. Chairman of the Agency Alikhan Smailov has made it public at the press conference in Astana today.

"Upon the results of the Cencus-2009 the population of Kazakhstan makes 16, 009, 600 people. During the inter-censal period the population increased by 1 028 300 people. The population growth made 6.9% compared to the last census held in 1999", A.Smailov said.

The Head of the Agency said that the rural population increased. "The urban population makes 8, 662, 400 people, the rural population - 7, 347, 200 people. The urban population increased by 206.6 thousand people or 2.4%, while the rural population increased by 821.7 thousand or 12.6%. The proportion of urban population in the country is 54.1%, rural - 45.9%", the Chairman of the Agency said.
