Kazakhstan introduced its own currency, the tenge, on November 15, 1993, with an exchange rate of 1 tenge – 500 roubles of the USSR. Kazakhstani tenge is highly estimated worldwide. The tenge won its first IBNS Banknote of the Year Award in 2011 for its 10,000 tenge denomination banknote dated to the 20th anniversary of the independence of Kazakhstan.
