Kazakh woman sentenced to 8 years in prison for selling newborns

A Kazakh woman has been handed an eight-year prison sentence for selling her children to married couples, Kazinform News Agency reports.

The woman was convicted in Aktobe region for selling her newborn and attempting to sell her unborn child to the couples who tried unsuccessfully to conceive a child for many years.

The court didn’t disclose how much money the woman received from the first couple whom she sold her newborn right after giving birth.

After getting pregnant again, the woman promised to sell her unborn child to two married couples. It was revealed that she had been able to extort 2.3 million tenge from desperate couples.

The woman will spend eight years behind the bars for earning money by trading her children for profit.

The court also ruled that the couples who had bought and attempted to buy the babies would get a three-year suspended prison sentences.
