Kazakh writer Berdibek Sokpakbayev’s ‘Menin atym Kozha’ book presented in French

A conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of renowned Kazakh children’s literature writer Berdibek Sokpakbayev took place in the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, Kazinform News Agency cites the press service of the Kazakh Culture and Information Ministry.

During the event, the famous book ‘Menin atym Kozha’ (My name is Kozha) by Berdibek Sokpakbayev was presented in the French language.

Attending the conference were Ernest Ottone, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture, Rustam Ali, chairman of the Committee on Archives, Documentation and Book Affairs of the Kazakh Culture and Information Ministry, Mereke Kulkenov, chairman of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan, and Bakhytzhan Omar, Kazakhstan’s representative in TURKSOY.

The event’s participants expressed confidence that Sokpakbayev’s book will introduce the unique world of Kazakh culture to young French readers, while revealing the rich traditions and values of the people of Kazakhstan.

The 100th anniversary of Kazakh writer Sokpakbayev was added to the UNESCO Memorial Calendar List to highlight his contribution to the world culture. Joining the Kazakh Writers’ Union in 1952, Sokpakbayev was recognized as the Kazakh children’s literature classic during his lifetime, with his works continue having a positive effect on younger generations.

The Kazakhstani side expressed gratitude to UNESCO for the support in holding the event as well as pointed out the importance of cultural events, that promote Kazakh heritage internationally.

To note, the 100th anniversary of Kazakh writer Sokpakbayev is to be marked on the scale of UNESCO this year. A monument of Sokpakbayev is set to be erected in the writer’s home village of Narynkol as well as a number of parks, an educational facility and a regional library are to bear his name, which are part of the writer’s 100th anniversary celebration held upon Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s initiative.
