In early December, you and Donald Trump had a telephone conversation. Recently, various expert evaluations have been expressed on how his reelection for the second term as the President will affect U.S. policy and the situation across the globe as a whole. In this regard, how do you see Kazakhstan - the U.S. relations in the coming years? Will the uneasy U.S. relations with China and Russia affect them?

"We held insightful and open talks with President-elect Donald Trump. It is safe to say he regards Kazakhstan as an important strategic partner of the U.S. We have agreed to maintain regular contacts at a high political level. Trump and his administration will promote new approaches to international politics that would inevitably affect the situation in the world," the Head of State said in his interview with the Ana Tili newspaper.

The President said he participated in establishing Kazakhstan-the U.S. relations since the mid-90s of the last century. For more than three decades of mutually beneficial cooperation, the two countries had achieved a common vision of priorities – trade and economic, and investment cooperation, non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and security. This agenda will also underlie the joint work with the new administration of the White House.

The Head of State said, that during the phone talk, Donald Trump asked about the country’s vision of the ceasefire in Ukraine. Many heads of state and international organizations asked the same question during the last year. "The situation is unique: Russia is unbeatable militarily and Ukraine hopes with the help of Western allies to stand out in the war, not to lose it at least. Therefore, I noted the exceptional complexity of the problem the solution of which depends on the will and intention of the heads of conflicting states and surely on Donald Trump as the leader of the world power, the Head of State said.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stressed that Kazakhstan since the beginning of the military operation in Ukraine stood for the start of talks to achieve peace.

He noted Kazakhstan acts in the international arena in conformity with its potential and possibilities but always is ready to help resolve international relations. "The point at issue is that tension in the international arena affects trade and political relations between Kazakhstan and certain countries therefore Kazakhstan strives to minimize the negative impact of external trends. Kazakhstan aims to build pragmatic and mutually beneficial ties with all interested states," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stressed.

As written before, in his interview with the Ana Tili newspaper President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev praised the results Kazakhstan achieved in 2024 and highlighted the unprecedented challenges the country faced in the same period.
