Kazakhstan and Spain keen to cooperate in environmental protection

ASTANA. March 18. KAZINFORM Minister of Environmental Protection of Kazakhstan Nurlan Kapparov paid a working visit to Spain on March 14-17, the press release of the Spanish Embassy in Kazakhstan reads.

Within the framework of the visit, Minister Kapparov met with Spanish State Secretary for Environment Federico Ramos de Armas. The sides discussed the problems of bilateral cooperation in the sphere of environment, effective water resources management, wastes collection and utilization, development of "green economy" and renewable energy.

In addition, Mr. Kapparov traveled to the city of Zaragoza in order to familiarize with the experience of holding of the international specialized exhibition EXPO-2008. In the course of the trip, N. Kapparov had a meeting with the mayor of the city, top management of the Regional Corporation "EXPO Zaragoza Empresarias" and visited the place where the EXPO-2008 had been held.

Expo-2008 was an international exposition held from 14 June to 14 September 2008 in Zaragoza with the theme of "Water and Sustainable Development". 104 countries reportedly participated in the event. President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev who visited the exhibition in Zaragoza in 2008 suggested the idea of holding the analogous event on the territory of Kazakhstan.

Navarre Region was the next stop on Minister Kapparov's trip to Spain. The region is one of the Spanish leaders in terms of the protection of environment and the development of renewable energy. Nurlan Kapparov met with a number of Spanish companies working in the field of environmental protection, namely Imabe Iberica, Eptisa, Elecnor, CAF and many more to discuss possible cooperation.
