Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to deepen inter-parliamentary partnership

ASTANA. September 6. KAZINFORM - In the framework of the official visit to Ashgabat the chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kairat Mami has held several meetings with the leaders of Turkmenistan, the press-service of the Senate informs.

At the meeting with President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov there were discussed topical issues of promoting bilateral cooperation. President of Turkmenistan said fondly of his state visit to Kazakhstan in May of this year, highlighting the fruitful meetings and talks with President Nursultan Nazarbayev, and the launch of large Kazakh-Turkmen projects.

Mr. Berdymukhamedov noted the positive dynamics of trade and economic relations, and good potential for cooperation in the transport and communication sector. He stressed the importance of the international launch in 2014 - the Kazakh- Turkmen section of the rail corridor caled "North- South". According to the President of great importance in the development of bilateral cooperation will have closer interaction of parliamentarians of the two countries .

"Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are important strategic partners in Central Asia. We have common roots, shared interests in international affairs, economy and trade, " Mr. Mami stressed. According to the speaker, his visit to Ashgabat has been projected to strengthen the parliamentary dimension of the Kazakh-Turkmen partnership. According to Kairat Mami it is necessary to actively involve groups on cooperation between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan in the parliaments of two countries.

In more detailed format inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries was discussed at a meeting of Kairat Mami with the chairman of the Mejlis Akja Nurberdieva. Kairat Mami invited his colleague to pay a return visit to Astana, during which the Turkmen Mejilis and Kazakh Senate could sign an agreement on inter-parliamentary cooperation .

The Speaker of the Senate also addressed the students of the faculty of the Institute of International Relations under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the visit the Kazakh delegation visited the mausoleum of the First President of Turkmenistan Saparmurat Niyazov.
