Kazakhstan attends 33rd session of CTBTO Preparatory Commission

VIENNA-BRUSSELS. November 17. KAZINFORM /Yerzhan Ospanov/ Kazakh Ambassador Yerzhan Kazykhanov has called for the soonest coming into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty. He announced it at the 33rd session of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO).

Y.Kazykhanov gave a positive estimation to the Organization's activity in 2009. He called for the soonest coming into force of the Treaty. The session participants were informed of the wide support of the Kazakh initiative on announcement August 29 the International Day for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons. The corresponding Resolution was approved by the consensus in the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly. Other contribution of Kazakhstan Central Asian states coming into force of the Central Asian Nuclear-Weapon-Free-Zone Treaty.

The Ambassador noted that Kazakhstan highly appraises the CTBTO assistance in technical support of the Kazakh stations of seismic and infrasound monitoring. He emphasized that the CTBTO should increase its activity's efficiency. Kazakhstan will continue cooperation with all Treaty participants on the issues of assistance in the soonest coming into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty and implementation of its provisions at different levels.
