Kazakhstan attracts KZT 327 bln in investments in energy sector

The Government of Kazakhstan sums up the work done in 2024. Results of the development of the country’s energy infrastructure and transition to green technologies were revealed today, Kazinform News Agency reports.

The republican budget allocated 52.7 billion tenge for the development of 14 projects, of which six are heat supply and eight are electric power supply projects. Two projects, in particular, sub-stations in Akzhaiyk and Uralsk, were commissioned that significantly raised the reliability of the region’s electric supplies.

Kazakhstan increased the annual limit of repayable investments from 32 billion to 428 billion tenge. Currently, 19 agreements worth 2.48 GW are in force under the investment agreements.

10 power generating units, 55 boilers and 55 turbines will be repaired. Capital repairs were completed at nine power-generating units, 53 boilers and 39 turbines.

On July 8, 2024, the Head of State signed the Law On the heat power industry aimed to tackle heating supply issues.

On March 7 Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia signed an agreement on a 1 GW wind power plant project to be built in Zhetysu region.

On November 12 another agreement was signed by Kazakhstan and Qazaq Wind Power on the construction of a wind mill in Zhambyl region. wind and solar power plants with a total capacity of 1.8GW will be built at large.

On March 29 Kazakhstan and Qatar signed an intergovernmental agreement on joint projects, including the construction of a 1.1 GW combined cycle power plant in Kyzylorda region and a 350 MW hydroelectric power station in Abai region.

On April 17 Governments of Kazakhstan and Russia inked another agreement to build three thermal power stations with a total capacity in the cities of Kokshetau, Semey and Ust Kamenogorsk.

Besides, Kazakhstan is set to allocate KZT10tln for energy and utilities infrastructure renovation.
