Kazakhstan bears special responsibility to promote stability and security in region - President of European Council H. Van Rompuy
"Today we have discussed regional issues, problems connected with Central Asia. We strive to make our relations with the region stronger and deeper, and Kazakhstan plays a key role in this area", Mr. H. Van Rompuy said.
He noted that at the meeting with N. Nazarbayev he emphasized an important role of the coming OSCE Summit in Astana. "This event will define further activity of the organization after the Kazakhstan's chairmanship", he noted.
Besides, the European Council President stressed that from the very beginning of the Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the OSCE the European Union supported the idea of developing a principled agenda for this Summit and the need to achieve concrete results. "This must help strengthen the OSCE and allow to find new solutions to the security problems in the OSCE space", Mr. Rompuy resumed.
