Kazakhstan Boxing Federation becomes member of World Boxing
Kazakhstan Boxing Federation has officially become a full-fledged member of the World Boxing. This was announced as the World Boxing Congress 2024 held in Colorado Springs following the U19 World Championships, Kazinform News Agency reports.
A total of 55 countries have joined the World Boxing (WB).
The Congress discussed the amendments to the WB Charter, approved by the International Olympic Committee.
Besides, amendments were adopted to the competition regulations. Henceforth the tournaments will be held in new weight categories. The amendments also affected the work of judges during the fights and when determining the winners.
Chair of the World Boxing Olympic Commission Gennady Golovkin welcomed the Congress participants and thanked USA Boxing for organizing the first ever U19 World Championship and hosting the Congress.
In his remarks he hailed the success of the World Boxing Olympic Commission, which held a number of meetings with the NOCs of various countries and other sports organizations on admission to the Federation membership at the last General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) in Portugal.
At the Congress, the Kazakh Boxing Federation also applied a bid to host the 2027 World Boxing Championships. The decision on this issue will be adopted in the nearest time.
Kazakhstan applied for the World Boxing membership in September 2024. Later, in the same month, Gennady Golovkin was appointed the Chair of the World Boxing Federation’s new Olympic Commission.
