Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov announced at the prime ministers' meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Bishkek on 5 December.

"Complex ecological situation in the region and in the world on the whole requires more interaction in the sphere of environmental protection. Protection and joint use of trans-border ecosystems, especially rivers and lakes, is of paramount importance in this respect," S. Akhmetov stated.

In addition, the head of the Kazakh Government praised cooperation of the SCO member states in the sphere of cultural education, healthcare and prevention of emergency situations as well as interaction between youth organizations.
