Kazakhstan can give political impetus to OSCE - OSCE Sec Gen Marc Perrin de Brichambaut
"It is very strong idea", the guest appraised Nursultan Nazarbayev's idea on holding the OSCE Summit in 2010. Expressing satisfaction with the visits on the line of the OSCE, the Secretary General noted that the current activation is determined by the forthcoming foreign ministries' meeting of the OSCE member-states in Athens. Noting the important role of the parliamentary cooperation, he considers that the legislative process promotes moving the OSCE standards in the internal life.
Talking about the upcoming chairmanship, the Majilis Speaker said that Kazakhstan has something to say on the agenda. First of all, it is topical issues of security, interethnic and interfaith concord. It is suggested holding conferences on religious tolerance, Eurasian dimension the next year.
Aspects of further strengthening of cooperation with the OSCE PA, democratization, legislative support in the post-crisis period were touched upon.
Special attention was paid to that Kazakhstan held three congresses of world religions and that the republic declined from the fourth in the world of nuclear weapons capabilities, closing the Semipalatinsk test site, and that the UN backed Nursultan Nazarbayev's initiative on announcement August 29 the International Day for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons.
Thanking the guest for the attention and warm responses to Kazakhstan, U.Mukhamedzhanov emphasized that Kazakhstan will be able to conduct its peaceful policy in the OSCE.
