Kazakhstan, China discuss return of artifacts

Kazakhstan’s Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balayeva has met with Minister of Culture and Tourism of China Sun Yeli. The sides discussed the issues of strengthening cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Aida Balayeva noted that the state visit of the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, and his participation in the Summit of the SCO Heads of State Council, would give a new impulse to the bilateral relations of the two countries. She also congratulated the Chinese side for successful registration of the Chinese Cultural Centre in Astana, the press service of the Kazakh Ministry informed.

According to her, the opening of the cultural centers would become a landmark event for Kazakhstan and China.

“The interaction in this area will develop progressively and will bring positive results for the two  nations. I am confident that this cultural platform will enable our peoples to be closer to each other,” Aida Balayeva said.

She also noted the Kazakh Ministry’s readiness for cooperation in the field of archives, return of historical documents and artifacts related to Kazakhstan in China.

The Chinese Minister expressed his readiness for cooperation and emphasized that after the approval of the program, the Chinese side will start working and will submit documents to the relevant authorities

He said that the cultural cooperation between the two countries plays a key role in strengthening mutual understanding and friendship between the Kazakh and Chinese nations.

“We see a huge potential for joint cultural projects and initiatives,” Sun Yeli said.

Upon completion of the meeting, the parties expressed confidence that today’s meeting will become another step towards further development of the Kazakh-Chinese cultural-humanitarian ties.
