Kazakhstan-China freight train services hit a record high of 32 million tons in 2024. Kazakhstan’s exports rose by 1 million tons and stood at 13.7 million tons, mainly exporting iron and non-ferrous ores, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, grains and others.

The country’s imports increased by 5%, while transit traffic via Kazakhstan was up 19% to 15.3 million tons. Kazakhstan saw container transit to Europe rise 43%.

Such a growth is mainly attributed to opening a Kazakh terminal at the international dry port in Xi’an, China. The newly-established port and Aktau port handled up to 300 container trains in 2024, a 30fold increase year-over-year.

Earlier it was reported that Kazakhstan had resumed its grain exports to Iran and Azerbaijan.
