Kazakhstan, China to open joint research and educational centre in Almaty

The National Academy of Scienceы of the President of Kazakhstan and China’s Shenzhen University entered into an agreement on establishment of the Kazakh-Chinese Research and Educational Centre, Kazinform News Agency reports.

As part of this agreement, a trilateral memorandum on establishment of a joint medical research laboratory was signed between the Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, Shenzhen University and the National Academy of Science of the President of Kazakhstan.

The signing of the agreement became one of the key events which took place within the official visit of the President of China, Xi Jinping, to Kazakhstan.

According to Executive Dean of Shenzhen University Xingzhi (Xavier) Xu, the establishment of the joint laboratory will become an important step towards development of scientific-research projects and will unveil new horizons for the exchange of knowledge and technologies.

“We are confident that this cooperation will enable to promote the implementation of numerous promising initiatives and projects which will benefit both Kazakhstan and China,” Xingzhi (Xavier) Xu said.

The sides will cooperate in development of drugs from natural products, study of genome instability and tumorigenesis, infection immunity and inflammation, as well as in development of medical equipment.

According to Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences Lyazzat Yeraliyeva, the laboratory will be based in Asfendiyarov University and in Shenzhen University. 

"This unique center will let organize academic exchange and research traineeship programs, as well as launch academic mobility program and carry out researches in different areas," she said.

The first joint project the sides plan to implement is titled as "Multi-target design of new drug candidates based on phyto-raw materials" which aims at development of anti-cancer pharmaceuticals with the use of phyto-raw materials.
