Kazakhstan claims 6 medals at Citi Para Swimming World Series Egypt 2024
Kazakh para-athletes pocketed bronze medals at the Citi Para Swimming World Series Egypt 2024, which was held in Cairo on December 3-9, Kazinform News Agency has learnt from the press service of the Astana's akimat.
Yersultan Nametullayev (S9) grabbed a bronze medal in the Freestyle 50m event, while Ali Turganbekov secured the Boy’s 100m Breaststroke SB4 bronze.
Head coach of the Kazakhstan national para swimming team Aidar Kartpayev commended the athletes' performance. He stated that the national team of Kazakhstan secured two gold, two silver, and two bronze medals at this tournament.
“Two swimmers from Astana stood out among other Kazakh athletes. Yersultan Nametullayev clocked the 50m freestyle race in 30.00 seconds, setting a new record for Kazakhstan. This is an outstanding achievement for our country. Ali Turganbekov, in turn, won bronze in the 100m breaststroke event, improving his personal best and also setting a national record. Moreover, Ali fulfilled the standard for participation in the World Youth Championships. Such competitions provide our athletes with invaluable experience. These competitions were the final ones this year, and now we start preparations for the 2025 World Para Swimming Championships,” the head coach said.
The competition brought together 90 para-athletes from 18 countries.
