Kazakhstan demonstrates transport potential at International Forum in Paris

At the International Transport Forum in Paris, Kazakhstan presented its efforts to develop transport infrastructure and international transport, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports, citing Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

At the event sessions, discussions and exchange of views and experiences took place in addressing pressing issues of sustainable development of the transport industry at the global and regional levels, further strengthening the role of the ITF in developing effective policy recommendations and developing high-quality international standards in this area, taking measures for further decarbonization and digitalization of transport , strengthening and practical implementation of the international transit potential of states, especially landlocked ones.

Speaking at the session “Transport connectivity in crisis conditions,” Permanent Delegate of Kazakhstan to international organizations in Paris Askar Abdrakhmanov emphasized Kazakhstan’s efforts to develop transport cooperation with all neighboring countries and use the potential of both traditional and previously less developed routes.

In particular, the beginning of the construction of second tracks on the Dostyk-Moiynty railway section from the border of Kazakhstan and China, a container hub and dredging work in the seaports of Aktau and Kuryk, a new Darbaza-Maktaaral railway line with further access through Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iran to the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean, the functioning of the eastern branch of the North-South corridor.

Special attention was paid to the work of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), known as the “Middle Corridor”, and the growth statistics of its indicators in recent years.

“The current geopolitical situation creates new economic and logistical challenges for Kazakhstan and other countries in the region, the answers to which are in close cooperation with our neighbors and international partners,” Kazakhstani diplomat emphasized.

ITF Secretary General Young Tae Kim in his speech focused on multilateral efforts at the organization’s site to prepare sought-after research and policy recommendations for the development of global and regional transport networks.

In turn, OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann noted the close work of experts from the two organizations to develop approaches to planning infrastructure development and investment in the transport sector, including taking into account the expanding use of artificial intelligence technologies, and to strengthening the resilience of transport infrastructure to natural disasters and other threats.

“Through the Sustainable Infrastructure Program in Asia (SIPA), the OECD and ITF are working together to help countries in Central and South-East Asia advance their efforts to decarbonize their economies. At the same time, infrastructure investments in the energy, industrial and transport sectors are encouraged in sustainable projects that create fewer emissions, in accordance with the Paris Agreement,” says Cormann.
