Kazakhstan elected to UNESCO Executive Council

ASTANA. October 15. KAZINFORM. At the 35th session of UNESCO's General Conference in Paris Kazakhstan was elected as a member of the UNESCO Executive Council representing the Asia-Pacific region for 4 years; Kazakh MFA's press service told Kazinform.

The UNESCO member countries that took part in the voting appraised Kazakhstan's contribution to rapprochement of peoples, dialog of cultures and civilizations as well as its initiatives on declaring 2010 as the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures and regular holding of the congress of world and traditional religions' leaders in Astana.

The Executive Council consisting of 58 members makes decisions on main directions of the UNESCO activity within the period between sessions of the General Conference.
