“Kazakhstan – EU” Cooperation Council held session

KAZINFORM /Yerzhan Ospanov/ "Kazakhstan - European Union" Cooperation Council approved Joint Agreement on the necessity of reconsideration of the Partnership Cooperation Agreement and further development of new agreement between Kazakhstan and the EU. It was announced at the XI session of the Cooperation Council on Tuesday in Brussels.

Kazakh delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister Yerbol Orynbayev took part in the session.

The Troika's Delegation was headed by High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Secretary- General of the Council of the European Union Javier Solana, Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner and State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Sweden, chairing the EU, Frank Belfrage. Secretary of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain Angel Lossada representing the coming Spain's EU Presidency took part in the session as well.

Topical issues of bilateral, regional cooperation and international problems were discussed. The European side complimented the contribution of Kazakhstan to the realization of the EU Strategy on new partnership with Central Asia.

In accordance with the 10 anniversary of entry into force of the Partnership Cooperation Agreement between the EU and Kazakhstan the sides complimented successful development of efficient bilateral political dialogue, including the dialogue on the human rights, essential increase of the volumes of bilateral trade and investments, strengthening and intensification of interaction in the field of freedom and security provision, transport and energy, environment protection and education, the sides also noted that the current Partnership Cooperation Agreement doesn't fully reflect neither close cooperation between Kazakhstan and EU, developed in last decade, nor growing importance of Kazakhstan as a political and economic entity of the foreign policy.

The main result of the session was adoption of Joint Agreement mentioned above in order to increase the level of the bilateral cooperation.
