Kazakhstan expands geopolitical contours of OSCE - Turkish Ambassador Bulent Tulun

ASTANA. November 30. KAZINFORM On November 29, 2010 the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Turkey and the Center for International Security, Terrorism and Ethnic Conflict Studies (USAK) held a conference devoted to the results of Kazakhstan's OSCE chairmanship.

The event was attended by more than 100 representatives of public-political and scientific circles of Turkey, Kazinform has learnt from the Embassy's press service.

Welcoming the participants, Director of USAK Centre Özdem Sanberk praised the current state of Kazakhstan-Turkey bilateral cooperation. He expressed satisfaction with the achievements of Kazakhstan over the years of independence under the leadership of President Nursultan Nazarbayev including chairmanship in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Asia this year.

Ex-Speaker of the Turkish Parliament and Minister of Foreign Affairs Hikmet Cetin said: "Today we witness successful chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the OSCE and growing role of the brotherly country in international affairs".

"As the OSCE presiding country Kazakhstan has initiated the idea of "Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian community of 'united and indivisible security' and thus it significantly expands the geo-political contours of the OSCE", Ambassador Bulent Tuluk noted.

Deputy Director of USAK Centre K. Kassym pointed out that convocation of the OSCE Summit in Astana was preconditioned by new global changes, challenges and threats which had occurred after the last Summit of the Organization in 1999 held in Istanbul.

Kazakh Ambassador Zh.Tuimebayev informed the conference participants of the major results, activities and initiatives of Kazakhstan during the OSCE chairmanship as well as the aspects of the oncoming Summit. He noted that adoption of the Final Declaration would become an important result of the top-level meeting which would allow ensuring security and developing cooperation in the OSCE responsibility area and the future of the Organization itself.

The participants of the conference expressed confidence in success of the Astana Summit which, in their opinion, would help strengthen the OSCE, increase trust and respect for the Organization.
