Kazakhstan eyes construction of glass-bottomed suspension bridge above Black Canyon in Almaty rgn
Kazakhstan is to construct a glass-bottomed suspension bridge above the Black Canyon, which is part of the Grand Canyon of Charyn in Almaty region, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.
According to Almaty region’s administration, the bridge is set to be constructed by ASK Capital LLP in the tourist area of the Black Canyon.
The project’s cost is estimated at 1.5 billion tenge. 50 new jobs are to be created. The implementation period of the project is between 2025/26, the press service of Almaty region’s administration informed.
It was added that 87 million tenge was provided to supply electrical power to the Black Canyon as well as 400 million tenge worth of investments were attracted to promote the tourist zone.
Once built, the bridge will be suspended 80 meters above the Black Canyon. The 170m-long bridge is set to withstand the weight of 500 people.
The Black Canyon, part of the Grand Canyon of Charyn, is located 30km from Almaty city and is named so due to the dark wall rocks seen there. At its deepest part, the Black Canyon is 100m deep and spans about 2km.
