Kazakhstan for nuclear free world, conference
Majilis Speaker Nurlan Nigmatulin has chaired the first seating of the steering committee of the conference today. The conference is dated to the International Day Against Nuclear Tests proclaimed by the UN. The forum was initiated by Majilis, Nazarbayev Center and international association "Parliamentarians for non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament" consisting of parliamentarians from more than 80 countries. The international conference "From nuclear tests prohibition to the world free of nuclear weapons", a part of implementation process of the Astana Declaration for a nuclear-free world, will be conducted on the 21st anniversary of closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site.
"Global antinuclear initiatives of President Nazarbayev are highly praised by the world community. It is proved by the fact that some 80 international delegations have confirmed their participation in our conference," N. Nigmatulin addressed the seating of the steering committee.
International community highly appreciates Nursultan Nazarbayev's initiatives on nuclear security. Thanks to political will of the President, Kazakhstan has abandoned the 4th largest nuclear arsenal in the world.
The first seating of the steering committee brought together eminent public figures, members of the Parliament and heads of non-governmental organizations. Members of the committee touched upon the agenda of the conference and its preparation. The conference will focus on the problems of global security, nuclear terrorism, etc. The attendees are to visit the territory of the former Semipalatinsk test site.
Organizers of the conference are confident that this forum will be a milestone event and will play a significant role in the efforts of the world community to create a nuclear-free world.
